I go there from time to time. The first time I went there, I told the cashier I noticed some cats hanging around outside. He told me "oh yes, they're probably waiting for their dinner!" There are always going to be stray cats, but the fact that they have created a safe space for them to get food and love just warmed my heart. Always friendly service and they always appreciate your business.

Updated Friday 03 April 2026. It is Good Friday (Easter) and the shop is open from 7.00am to 7.00pm every day of the year. Yes open on Public Holidays. The Railway Convenience Store was taken over by new owners in Nov 2024. Everything is price marked. They sell cheap softdrinks from $1 a can, $1.50 for most other 375ml cans and Coca-Cola 375ml $2.00. They have a Mediterranean Range of products at a 20% discount. Also the popular Deshi ice creams from China, flavours being mango, strawberry, grape and peach. There is a sign on the Railway Avenue (South Townsville) footpath displaying these ice creams. The shop also sells: Lollies, toiletries, cereal, fruit juice, milk, eggs, frozen foods, garden products, rice, pasta, cleaning items, chips, jams, pet food etc. With every hot pie or sausage roll that you buy, you can choose between a free 375ml can of soft drink, cup of coffee, slushie or a NU bottle of water for $5. There is a Slushie machine for $2 a cup, roughly 750ml in size. The ATM machine in the shop must be about the cheapest to use in Townsville, only a $2 charge. The staff are friendly and greet every one with a 'hello' and 'have a good day' when you leave. If you can't find something, just ask them and they will let you know if they do or don't stock the item.
